We are all water. Flowing, shaping, sustaining. Water moves through our lives, and glass is the medium that holds it, transforms it, and makes it visible. Designed to slow you down, to remind that our first need is breath, our second is water.

Brief

Established in 1905, the glassworks has built its reputation over the years on optical décor patterns that capture light while subtly concealing any potential imperfections in the glass itself.

Tiny air bubbles are characteristic of this material and, at this particular glassworks, are a result of the production process: discarded pieces are not thrown away but remelted, with each subsequent melting introducing new air into the glass melt.

The optical metal molds still crafted by hand today represent a significant investment. Operating a Czech glassworks is costly, and ensuring consistency between pieces relies on the skill of the glassmakers working with the molten material; consequently, only a small fraction of the items produced actually make it to market.

Design

Development of new molds featuring an optical pattern created through digital sculpting. Visualizations allow the final glass piece to be viewed before the mold is even made; since the mold is not produced entirely by hand, investment costs are reduced.

This conceptual collection employs a motif that gives glassmakers greater creative freedom during production allowing small air bubbles to appear as a natural feature and eliminates the need for every piece to be identical to the last. The product forms are thus shaped by the glassworks’ own manufacturing process.
